Cambodian Activists Look to Joe Biden for Help During Asean

Cambodian activists and opposition politicians made a last-ditch effort to catch the attention of U.S. President Joe Biden before he arrived at the Asean Summit, hopeful that the U.S.’s self-image as a protector of democracy could help elevate their plight.

Man Arrested for Crossing Key Asean Summit Road

Phnom Penh Municipal Police said the arrest happened around 1:20 p.m. along one of the main roads in Phnom Penh being used to shuttle Asean Summit VIPs to and from the Sokha Hotel in Chroy Changva.

Koh Kong Sea-Filling Development Is Permitted: Official

Koh Kong provincial authorities said sand-filling, clearing mangroves and constructing buildings in part of the sea in Sre Ambel district had official permission to proceed despite an outpouring of concern on social media.

Two More Unionists Suspended at Phnom Penh Factory

Phnom Penh’s New Mingda garment factory suspended two more workers who had been trying to form a union, workers said, following a protest there last week over the dismissal of another union leader.
