Borei Keila Developer Suy Sophan Dies at Age 62

Phanimex director Suy Sophan, known for her close links to some of the country’s most powerful women and for controversies surrounding violent evictions at her company’s inner-city Borei Keila development, died aged 62 on Monday morning, the Cambodian Red Cross said.

Government Requests Leniency for Borey Buyers Struggling to Pay

The government is asking property developers to show leniency toward people struggling to pay installments on their gated homes and condominiums, even as a spokesman said a separate youth-led campaign calling for suspending microfinance repayments was illegal.

CPP Shouldn’t Be Considered Legitimate Ruler: European Parliament

The European Parliament has adopted a resolution calling for “overdue” sanctions against Cambodian leaders responsible for rights violations, and for E.U. nations to suspend bilateral aid to Cambodia, adding that Prime Minister Hun Sen’s ruling CPP “should not be considered the legitimate ruling party.”

New Arrivals’ Quarantine to Be Moved to Home Provinces

Prime Minister Hun Sen ordered border authorities to send new arrivals coming in through land borders straight to their home provinces to quarantine if they aren’t showing symptoms, as one border province said it was struggling to feed the thousands of people in quarantine while returnees increased.
