Hun Neng, the older brother of Prime Minister Hun Sen, died around 6:25 p.m. Thursday evening from heart disease, an official statement said. He was 72 years old.
Ruling CPP spokesman Sok Eysan said the family would hold a funeral ceremony beginning tonight, and Neng’s body is scheduled to be buried in Kampong Cham province’s Phnom Pros on Monday.
“We have regret and are very sad to lose this public figure,” Eysan said. “He was a member of the central committee of the CPP and we wish that he rests in peace.”
Neng was a lawmaker in the National Assembly representing Kampong Cham, as well as a former governor of Kampong Cham and Svay Rieng provinces.
A brief statement issued by the family and shared on local media outlets said Neng died aged 72 from heart disease in Kampong Cham. He would be buried at Wat Sovankiri Rattanak at Kampong Siem district’s Krala commune, it said.
