At least five people have died after a crane collapsed at a building site in Banteay Meanchey province’s Poipet City on Wednesday afternoon, according to local police.
Nearly 200 construction sites in Banteay Meanchey province have been found to be under construction without a permit or to be violating building standards, the provincial land management department said on Thursday.
Illegal construction will not be tolerated by authorities in Preah Sihanouk province, but a small percentage of problems related to new construction — which has boomed in the coastal province in recent years — could not be helped, a provincial official said.
