Capital Governor Offers Rice to End Garbage Strike, Workers Decline

Confusion reigned after the latest round of negotiations over a garbage collectors’ strike, with workers applauding a speech by Phnom Penh governor Khuong Sreng before later realizing, according to a unionist, that “none of their demands were accepted.”

Cintri Workers Protest Over Sudden Dismissals

More than 80 office staff from waste collector Cintri protested in front of their company along Monivong Boulevard in Phnom Penh on Thursday after it laid them off without notice, clear reason or adequate compensation, they said.
