The opposition Khmer National United Party has asked to meet with the National Election Committee to make changes to electoral procedures ahead of the upcoming national July 2023 election.
Two minor parties will come together to form a new political “middle,” they announced on Monday, a surprise alliance between royalist general Nhek Bun Chhay and Yem Ponhearith, ally of on-trial opposition leader Kem Sokha.
Small party president and former general Nhek Bun Chhay had charges of drug production and procurement of precursors dropped by a Phnom Penh court this week, in a case dating back to 2007.
