A soldier fatally shot a man on a Phnom Penh sidewalk after joining police officers in chasing an alleged thief, police said.
Po Hin Lean was gunned down in a rice field in the middle of the night this week. The killing likely relates to a heavy-handed police crackdown on illegal fishing. The man’s political affiliations also cast shadows over his death.
Kandal provincial authorities said two police officers were killed and another injured in a shoot-out during a drug bust in the province on Thursday.
