Hun Sen Threatens Local Family of CNRP Official Living Overseas

Prime Minister Hun Sen inaugurated the construction of a new bridge from the capital’s Koh Pich island to the under-construction Koh Norea satellite city by seemingly threatening the local family of former CNRP lawmaker Ho Vann, living in exile overseas.

Rights Monitors, Journalists Threatened Over Taking Photos at Rally

A Phnom Penh deputy governor was among authorities who harassed rights monitors and journalists, threatening to confiscate their cameras and phones, at a small opposition rally outside the Chinese Embassy on Friday, with a media advocate calling the authorities’ actions “unacceptable intimidation.”

CNRP Protesters Note Contrast in Police Tactics at China, US Embassies

After authorities on Friday forcibly moved about a dozen people protesting across the street from the Chinese Embassy in Phnom Penh, and arrested three, demonstrators highlighted how police tactics used during a later rally at the U.S. Embassy were as different as “the sky and earth.”

UPDATED: Authorities Break Up Small CNRP Protest Outside Chinese Embassy

UPDATED 10:45 a.m. — About 50 uniformed and plainclothes authorities on Friday forcibly stopped about a dozen people protesting across the street from the Chinese Embassy in Phnom Penh, with one woman being carried away down Mao Tse Tung Blvd. by authorities and three other demonstrators pulled into the back of a police truck and driven away.
