Stung Treng city authorities are investigating a couple who allegedly scammed tens of thousands of dollars from around 100 families by claiming to be relatives of Prime Minister Hun Sen’s wife Bun Rany and his adviser Seng Tieng.
“People like to come to wish for good luck,” Sok Chea says. “If they want to sell their property, like land, they will come to wish to make a deal happen sooner and to get a good price for their land.”
Indigenous communities say speculators have accelerated illegal land sales and Covid-19 restrictions are preventing members from patrolling the protected area.
