The Appeal Court on Wednesday upheld a lower court decision to arrest and jail unionist Rong Chhun over his claims that Cambodia had ceded land to Vietnam, denying him release on bail as his supporters continued to rally outside the court.
Police on Friday arrested a minor party president over “exaggerations” related to a detained unionist’s comments on border demarcations, at least the 12th arrest made over the past two weeks in relation to the controversy.
Protests continued into Monday over the jailing of prominent labor leader Rong Chhun in relation to his comments on the alleged loss of Cambodian territory to Vietnam, while a border official disputed the unionist’s claims.
The National Assembly on Monday ratified two treaties demarcating the border between Cambodia and Vietnam.
UPDATED 2:07 p.m. — The minor Grassroots Democratic Party (GDP) has urged the government to reveal the border agreement that Prime Minister Hun Sen signed with his Vietnamese counterpart last week, requesting greater transparency about the demarcation process.
