The prime minister’s son Hun Manith has been given an additional rank equivalent to minister, adding to his existing duties as the head of military intelligence.
Prime Minister Hun Sen has promoted 25 people to be his official assistants, including a bodyguard who has received land on Phnom Penh’s Boeng Tamok lake and another who was nearly scammed online by a 14-year-old.
The ministries of defense and finance have formed a committee to identify soldiers who have gone too long without promotions, with military spokespersons explaining that they will be looking for ways to boost salaries and make sure ranks match up with responsibilities.
