Tuk-Tuk Rides Nearly Halve as Capital Residents Restrict Outings

PassApp says tuk-tuk rides on the company’s app were down 40-45 percent at the end of last week amid the latest Covid-19 outbreak, as Phnom Penh residents spoke of restricting outings to avoid unnecessary contact and using their own transport.

Tuk-tuk drivers in Phnom Penh are losing their income as tourist arrivals to Cambodia plummet and residents decide to stay home during the Covid-19 pandemic. But as informal workers, they are largely excluded from the limited social welfare that others can access.
