Authorities sent 16 people aboard a foreign tanker to court on Tuesday after the ship entered Cambodian waters bearing the Cambodian flag, despite the government repealing its “flag of convenience” scheme five years ago.
After rapid construction in recent years transformed the coastal city, and more than 200 vendors’ stalls on public beaches were demolished in January, the future of Sihanoukville’s beach tourism is still unclear.
The government shutdown of online gambling businesses this month won’t leave workers in Preah Sihanouk without job options, according to officials, who said there are plenty of opportunities to work in the province’s special economic zones.
