The Phnom Penh Municipal Court summoned Royal Academy of Cambodia president Sok Touch for questioning after the Khmer Rise Party complained that he illegally interfered with its petition imploring the country to reclaim a southern island from Vietnam.
Defense Minister Tea Banh has made an appeal for people to reject smear campaigns against Prime Minister Hun Sen’s government, saying they could help to foment “color revolution” and plunge Cambodia back into civil war.
The government has threatened legal action against about 5,000 mostly Vietnamese migrants it says are in living in Cambodia with invalid immigration documents unless they come forward to authorities within three months.
